An American shopper has taken to British supermarkets to observe the differences between stores here compared to in the United States. While they were able to notice a number of differences between the two countries stores, the shopper said they found one difference particularly “insane”.
Paige Wester, an American mum living in England, visited UK supermarkets including Tesco and Sainsbury’s and noticed a range of differences between supermarkets in the UK and those across the pond.
Posting to TikTok, she first highlighted how eggs in UK supermarkets are “never refrigerated” unlike many in US stores before adding how “cheap” eggs are to buy in the UK, claiming shoppers “can’t get” the same prices in America.
The mum then also highlighted how shoppers in the UK have to “pay for grocery bags”, in comparison to many stores in the States.

She explained: “You have to pay for grocery bags which I love because we’re saving the planet by bringing our own, but if you are like me and forget them all the time you are screwed.”
But, despite noticing a number of differences, Paige was especially floored by one “insane” aisle commonly found in British stores.

As she walked through Sainsbury’s, she said: “The tea aisle is absolutely insane to me – it is an entire aisle just dedicated to different types of teas.
She added: “I didn’t even know this much tea existed in the world.”
Paige since also visited Tesco where she shared a number of further differences between the two countries’ supermarkets, including one difference which she described as “the best invention to come out of England”.

She said: “Forget about the world wide web and the telephone, the best invention to come out of England are the 360 degree shopping cart wheels.
“America definitely needs to take notes because we really do need these.”
Tesco however has recently announced plans to trial new supermarket trolleys in its stores with plastic baskets, which follow a similar style to ones seen in the U.S.
