The Ibrox side have 11 players out on loan but moving one on permanently could prove tricky
Rangers players in training
Rangers face a sweat in their bid to offload Danilo – after NEC Nijmegen revealed they are stalling on whether to turn the Ibrox flop’s loan deal into a permanent one.
The Brazilian striker, 26, joined the Dutch high-fliers in January with NEC currently sitting third in the Eredivisie but he has failed to score in the Netherlands.
NEC have an option to buy for an unspecified fee after Danilo – one of 11 players Rangers have loaned out – was frozen out at Rangers under Danny Rohl.
But he’s managed just 187 minutes for NEC in six appearances…and he’s only started one of those games. And NEC Director of Player Affairs, Carlos Aalbers, has revealed they will take their time before deciding whether to purchase the former Ajax and Feyenoord star from Rangers.
He said: “NEC does not need to make a decision at this moment regarding the purchase option in Danilo Pereira da Silva’s contract.
“Our full focus is now on the conclusion of the 2025-2026 season. We are entering a phase that is important, but we don’t yet know the outcome.
“This is important for making sound decisions and for that reason, we are not making any final choices on loan players at this moment.”
