Spider-Man: Brand New Day has given us a lot to unpack in the first trailer, between MJ and Ned’s roles, a telepath rumored to be the X-Men’s Jean Grey, Mac Gargan donning a mechanized suit as Scorpion, Peter Parker undergoing some sort of Man-Spider “rebirth,” and more. Buteven though Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s story is already quite secretive, there is reason to believethis trailer has not been aboveboard.
For instance, while rumors and leaks have suggested that other villains will appear who have suspiciously not been confirmed yet, something that sticks out like a sore thumb in Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s first trailer is the Hand’s mystical, red-clad ninjas. It is possible that the movie will have a reasonable explanation as to why it needs to layer the Hand into an already encumbered narrative, but perhaps all is not as it seems, with Mister Negative and the Inner Demons actually taking their place when the movie is released.
Mister Negative and the Inner Demons are currently not confirmed to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Is Spider-Man: Brand New Day Hiding Mister Negative?

The Hand being in a Spider-Man movie would be curious, especially when there is seemingly so little room for it to play a meaningful role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and yet it is not as if the Hand has not been established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Because Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Punisher are street-level heroes, and with Punisher confirmed to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the rumors of Peter defending an incarcerated Matt Murdock from the Hand in prison are not completely unfathomable.
That said, Spider-Man: Brand New Day may well be replicating Spider-Man: No Way Home’s questionable trailer editing and not-so-sneakily omitting characters from the shot where Spider-Man descends on a horde of midair Hand ninjas during the day. Rather than characters being edited out of this shot, though, it would be arresting if the enemies were instead edited to look like the Hand, when in reality they are Inner Demons.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Mister Negative rumors have stirred for ages, with no real evidence to suggest that the F.E.A.S.T. shelter’s Martin Li will not appear. Indeed, the mysterious red insignia that was spotted on the beige tank Spider-Man pursues was initially believed to be connected to the Inner Demons, and both Invincible’s Steven Yeun and Marvel’s Spider-Man’s Stephen Oyoung were previously rumored to be playing the character for the MCU.
Mister Negative And The Inner Demons Would Feel Right At Home

To be fair, the effort of swapping characters wearing black-and-white dress suits and Chinese masks with characters wearing red ninja suits would be an enormous misdirect, and maybe not a worthwhile one. However, to make this stretch a bit more tangible, a brand-new series, conveniently titled The Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is launching on May 13.
This comic shares more than a subtitle with the upcoming MCU movie, too, as its first four issues take place in continuity during the “Brand New Day” era of nobody remembering that Peter is Spider-Man, and features Frank Castle’s Punisher. It may not be wholly coincidental, then, that Mister Negative appears as a villain, maybe as an amuse-bouche for what audiences will see in theaters this July.
That is not all. There are also obvious parallels between Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man game, such as the sequence where Spider-Man pursues Mister Negative in a high-speed chase (Spider-Man even performs an identical maneuver when web-yanking a vehicle in order to turn it sharply). Of course, only time will tell if the MCU is actually obscuring the Inner Demons by disguising them as the Hand.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 31, 2026.
