Multiple police cordons are in place in the city centre this morning

Multiple streets in Liverpool city centre have been sealed off after a reports a man was threatened with a gun. There are currently cordons in place on Button Street, Mathew Street, Victoria Street and part of Whitechapel.
Large portions of the Cavern Quarter were cordoned off by police this morning, Monday April 6, with police tape being further extended onto Whitechapel and the side of HSBC bank.
Police confirmed a man has been arrested following the incident around 4.45am. It was reported a fight broke out between two men close to Clayton Square during which it was reported one threatened the other with a firearm.
There is no suggestion a firearm was used and there are no reports of any injuries.
Following CCTV and witness enquiries officers detained a 37-year-old man in the city centre and arrested him on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a certificate. He is currently in custody.
No firearm has been recovered and enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.

Arrest made after man threatened with gun
Merseyside Police confirmed a man has been arrested after it was reported a man had been threatened with a gun.
There were reports of a fight in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of this morning, Monday 6 May.
Police were called around 4.45am following reports of a fight between two men close to Clayton Square during which it was reported one man threatened the other with a firearm.

Merseyside Police have been approached for comment, but declined to elaborate further on the nature of the incident. Police did however, say there is currently no ongoing risk to the public.
