Benfica allegedly make contact with Manchester United to discuss the possibility of signing Antony before the end of this summer’s transfer window.

Two-time European Cup winners Benfica have reportedly made contact with Manchester United to discuss the possibility of signing Antony before the end of this summer’s transfer window.

The 25-year-old arrived at Old Trafford off the back of scoring 24 goals and registering 22 assists in 82 appearances for Ajax, but he has struggled to make his mark for the 20-time English champions.

Antony has only managed 12 goals and five assists in 96 games for Man United, and he has not been involved in their preparations for the 2025-26 campaign, with the Brazilian pushing for an exit.

The forward spent the second half of last season on loan at Real Betis, scoring nine times and registering five assists in 26 appearances for the club.

Antony is believed to be desperate to return to Real Betis this summer, but the La Liga outfit are finding it incredibly difficult to afford a permanent deal, with Man United believed to want just over £30m for his services.

Benfica ‘join the race’ for Man United’s Antony

Antony has allegedly recently turned down the chance to make a lucrative move to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr, with the forward determined to secure a return to Real Betis.

However, according to Mais Futebol, Benfica have emerged as a genuine option, with the Portuguese giants twice approaching Man United in recent days to engage in transfer talks.

Antony is believed to be open to making the move to the Eagles, who finished second in Portugal’s top flight last season, two points behind the champions Sporting Lisbon.

Benfica’s initial talks with Man United are believed to have been regarding a loan move, but the 20-time English champions continue to push for a permanent departure during this summer’s transfer window.

Antony is a part of Man United’s ‘bomb squad’

Alongside Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho, Antony is a part of Man United’s ‘bomb squad’, with the players currently training away from the first team and available for transfer this summer.

The talk surrounding an exit for Malacia has been incredibly quiet, but Chelsea are now advancing on a deal for Garnacho, with the Argentina international widely expected to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

Sancho, meanwhile, has recently been heavily linked with a switch to Juventus, but Borussia Dortmund are seemingly emerging as the favourites to re-sign the former Manchester City youngster this summer.
