New Liverpool defender Jeremy Jacquet has been making good use of his free time due to a significant injury

Jeremy Jacquet has confirmed he was at Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain. The 20-year-old, who will arrive at Anfield from Rennes ahead of the 2026/27 season in a £60 million deal, is currently recovering from shoulder surgery which seemingly gave him the chance to watch his new team in the flesh.
Arne Slot and his players were in France last week with the European champions putting in a dominant performance but only winning 2-0. Jacquet has since confirmed in a social media post, highlights his last few weeks, that he was in the stands for the clash.

Other images on his Instagram post include parts of his recovery in a swimming pool and the gym, with one snap capturing him wearing Liverpool’s away kit from the 2022/23 season. The central defender underwent an operation in early March and is not expected to feature again this season.

Jacquet actually picked up the injury weeks earlier and just days after having his planned move to Liverpool announced. On March 3, a statement confirming his operation read: “Jeremy Jacquet is set to undergo surgery.
“On the pitch against Lens on February 7th, Jeremy Jacquet was forced to leave the game early due to a left shoulder injury. Following medical examinations, surgery has been scheduled in the coming days. Stade Rennais F.C. wishes him a speedy recovery.”

Depending on his recovery, Jacquet’s first few months with Liverpool could also be impacted. Defensive concerns for Slot were prominent even before his pre-agreed signing with Ibrahima Konate seeing his contract expire this summer.
Reports have since emerged that an agreement over an extension are close even with the 26-year-old enduring a difficult last eight months.
While Konate appears set to remain at Liverpool, two clubs icons in Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson have had their end-of-season exits confirmed already.
A new era in Merseyside therefore appears set to get underway with Jacquet as the latest new generation signing after the additions of Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike last summer.

Further transfers are expected over the summer months but Liverpool’s immediate focus will be on the second leg of their European clash against PSG which takes place on Tuesday evening.
The Premier League champions picked up a morale-boosting 2-0 win over Fulham on Saturday with Rio Ngumoha and Salah on target. Both of those forwards remained unused substitutes in the Parc des Princes last week with Slot subsequently handed a team selection dilemma.
Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo also put in a strong displays with Liverpool needing every player on top form to overturn the two-goal deficit.
