Hundreds of Lufthansa flights are being disrupted due to strike action by two different unions

Manchester Airport passengers are facing further disruption as a major European airline is hit by more strikes. Cabin crew at Lufthansa have walked out today, meaning flights to and from Munich and Frankfurt have been cancelled.
It comes amid two ongoing strike at the German airline. Pilots belonging to the Vereinigung Cockpit union began a 48-hour strike on Monday and Tuesday, impacting tens of thousands of passengers as hundreds more flights were cancelled. They extended the strike to Thursday and today (April 16).
And yesterday (April 15), cabin crew belonging to the UFO union began their strike action lasting into today. The strike action impacts not just Lufthansa but its subsidiaries which include Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa CityLine and Eurowings.

Today the airline has cancelled three flights from Manchester Airport to Germany:
10.35am flight LH2501 to Munich
11.05am flight LH943 to Frankfurt
6.20pm LH947 to Frankfurt
The following flights due to arrive at Manchester Airport have also been cancelled today so far:
9.50am flight LH2500 from Munich
10.10am flight LH942 from Frankfurt
5.35pm LH946 from Frankfurt
11pm flight LH948 from Frankfurt
According to German news site Deutsche Welle, the strike actions resulted in hundreds of flights being cancelled on Monday, with major hubs Frankfurt and Munich hit the hardest. It’s the fourth strike of 2026 to impact the airline.

In a statement on its website, Lufthansa said that customers affected by flight cancellations or re-bookings would be informed by email by at the latest. It urges passengers to check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport and those who booked via a travel agent should contact them directly.
Regarding rebooking and refunds, the airline said: “Passengers holding tickets from Lufthansa, Austrian, Swiss, Brussels Airlines or Air Dolomiti, issued on or before 13 April 2026, and booked on Lufthansa-operated flights (including Lufthansa CityLine) on April 13, 14, 15 and 16 2026, may: rebook free of charge to another Lufthansa Group flight before April 23 2026 via the Lufthansa Help Center, or request a refund for their ticket before your ticketed travel date via the Help and Contact Center.”
Lufthansa added: “We are currently experiencing a high volume of calls, which may result in longer waiting times when contacting our service centers. For urgent requests, we kindly ask you to make use of the digital services mentioned above whenever possible.
“We sincerely regret the disruption caused by the strike announced at short notice by the unions Vereinigung Cockpit and UFO and thank you for your understanding.”
