Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Laura Norton has teased the future of her character Kerry Pollard’s relationship with Jai Sharma – and there could be some rocky times ahead. This year, Kerry and Jai began an unexpected romance in the workplace and desperately attempted to keep their secret fling from their colleagues.

Kerry is married to Eric for tax purposes, and he was furious when he discovered her affair with Jai, even faking falls and ailments to keep Kerry close to him.

But since then, Eric has given Kerry and Jai his blessing, which led the couple to decide to go public with their relationship and give things a go.

However, in an interview with Inside Soap, Laura told us that while Kerry and Jai are currently very happy, they may face some major challenges in the future.

“Kerry has brought out a part of Jai that we haven’t seen for a long time,” she explains. “He’s trying to be funny and cute, and he really likes her, and really likes that she’s bringing out that side of him. But I feel like, if it starts to get serious, will things get in the way?”

She continued: “There’s certain things in a relationship where people meet at a crossroads and they go, ‘We’re similar enough and we can make this work.’ I don’t know if they’re so different that it’s going to reach that point and they just won’t be able to get past it.

“But who knows? At the minute she’s having a lovely time with him!”

Kerry has been learning to live without her daughter Amy, who died in the dramatic limo crash last year, and Laura said that she would love to play a deeper exploration of how this tragedy has changed her character.

She says: “I would love to see a story play out where Kerry faces her grief about Amy, and you get to see her having to confront her grief and deal with it, come out the other side, and then find the love of her life.

“She’d have this amazing, euphoric relationship, getting piggybacks up and down Main Street and dancing in the Woolpack. There’s some happy ending out there for Kerry, some real happy ending.”
