Thrilling to watch at times, the exploits of filmmaker Lucy Shepherd (last seen exploring the Secret Amazon) as she crosses Tanzania with nomadic indigenous tribesmen highlight the marginal lives of those living on ever-shrinking parcels of land. As she learns the ways of the hunter-gatherer, it has an edge of real peril that perhaps only Bruce Parry’s films have accomplished in recent years.
Elizabeth II: the Unseen Photos

A relatively enlightening film for Channel 5’s exhausted “Saturday night Windsors” slot, this uses newly discovered photos, including images of the Blitz, Aberfan and paparazzi photos of the Queen meeting the Duke of Windsor, to prompt speculative but intriguing theories about one of the most scrutinised women of the past 100 years.

After the New Forest and the Pembrokeshire Coast, the cameras turn to Dartmoor, a very different sort of landscape but no less compelling either visually, with its heaths, tors and grasslands, or in its population, which includes salmon, otters and kingfishers.

A second run for this self-explanatory series begins by cramming in visits to Bolivia, Northern Ireland, Norway, Wales and the Pyrenees for a series of modernist exteriors and interiors that certainly catch the eye, while perhaps not being to everyone’s tastes. GO
