Coronation Street’s Summer Spellman joined forces with a surprising ally in a bid to get revenge on Theo Silverton. Summer decided to give Carl Webster the £10,000 he previously asked for – though she changed the terms of the agreement.

In tonight’s episode, a fragile Todd Grimshaw returned back home after being discharged from hospital. He received a warm welcome from George Shuttleworth, Mary Taylor and Christina Boyd, who were relieved that Theo’s abuse had finally come to an end.

As the trio continued to support him, Todd decided it was time to call his mum Eileen and tell her about his ordeal. He then shared his plan to return to the flat to get some new clothes, with George insisting on going with him.

At the flat, Todd quickly stuffed some nearby items into a bag and tried to make a hasty exit, fearing that Theo could enter at any minute. When the bell rang, he ran out in a panic, realising just how traumatised he was from the relationship.

Later, Todd recuperated with his loved ones and shared his plan to get away from Weatherfield for a while with Sarah Platt. Summer was heartbroken to hear that he was being forced out of his home, though she agreed that he needed a break.

Meanwhile, a sheepish Carl arrived at Chariot Square Hotel to make amends with Debbie, after she discovered him trying to extort money from Summer. He explained that he was scared of Theo, and had since told Summer everything he knows about Billy’s death.

In the final scenes of the episode, a furious Summer decided to take matters into her own hands in order to get justice for Todd. She arranged to meet with Carl in the ginnel and shared her plan to get rid of Theo for good.

“I want Theo gone. Like, I want him to rot in prison for what he’s done,” she declared, offering him £10,000 to make it happen. “But it needs to be good enough for the police. Right, I won’t pay anything until he’s locked up.”

Having landed himself in Debbie’s bad books recently, Carl agreed to Summer’s terms and assured her that he’d get it done. But with his loyalty always lying with the highest bidder, can he truly be trusted?

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
