The NFL Draft is a handful of days away, and the Pittsburgh Steelers still don’t know whether Aaron Rodgers will be returning in 2026.

We know the Steelers should find out from Rodgers one way or the other before the draft, so the clock is ticking. There are some who think he will be coming back for another season, others think retirement is on the horizon, but we don’t have too long to wait.

In an ideal world, Rodgers would have let the Steelers know already, and privately, he might have, but for Pittsburgh star Cam Heyward, he isn’t sure if the franchise will know Aaron’s intentions before the draft.

“I don’t know,” Heyward said on the Rich Eisen Show. “But I think everybody is all in on him. For what we got to see this season, we were pleasantly surprised how great he was coming off of being on the Jets, to him just being a breath of fresh air of how he went about his business.

“Was accountable, held others accountable, loves the game, and just studies his [expletive] off. I haven’t seen many guys to that level of just knowing the insides and outs of football.”

Should Rodgers return?

If he thinks he can still play to a high level, then why not? After all, Rodgers wasn’t terrible last season. Granted, he wasn’t great either, but the Steelers were in most games.

There is a clear ceiling, however, with Rodgers at quarterback, and the Steelers might be better served going with someone like Will Howard or even drafting Ty Simpson to try and get a long-term solution at the position.

Rodgers coming back won’t be the worst thing for Pittsburgh, but it hardly guarantees the franchise a playoff spot, and the franchise won’t get games into the likes of Howard, who still waits in the wings.

We should find out soon enough what Rodgers will do, I get the sense Pittsburgh will be fine with whatever he decides.
