Emergency services were called to Northern Approach at around 6.30am on April 19 after reports of a crash involving one car.
Despite the efforts of responders, the man, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
The driver of the car, a 37-year-old woman from Maldon, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, and possession of a Class B drug.
She remains under investigation as enquiries continue.
In an earlier statement released this morning, an Essex Police spokesperson said: “We are on the scene of a serious collision involving one car in Northern Approach, Colchester.
“The collision was reported to us at 6.30am, and we expect the road to remain closed for a number of hours while we carry out our enquiries.
“Drivers should expect delays and plan their journeys accordingly.
“We will provide further updates regarding the incident and closure as soon as we can, and we thank you for your patience while emergency services work at the scene.
“If anyone has any information or dashcam footage relating to this incident, please get in touch quoting incident 235 of Sunday April 19.”
Police have reiterated their appeal for information and are urging anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have relevant dashcam or doorbell footage, to come forward.
