Hollyoaks star Parry Glasspool has responded to calls for his character, Harry Thompson, to return to Cheshire. Though the Channel 4 soap is renowned for some wild storylines, a comeback for Harry would be bold given he was killed-off seven years ago.

Glasspool played Tony Hutchinson’s son after first appearing in an episode of spin-off Hollyoaks Later in 2013. He joined the main series two years later, but his character died in 2019 after being stabbed in the stomach by Breda McQueen.

Despite this, viewers have called for the character’s return, with one fan of the soap asking Glasspool if he would consider an offer. Taking to TikTok, the actor expressed doubt that it would work from a narrative standpoint.

“That’s a pretty dangerous question to ask an actor who is not currently acting… if he would like to go back to an acting job that’s pretty stable,” he quipped, though he did question if a comeback would “cheapen” his character’s death or “make sense” creatively.

The actor, who has since appeared in ITV soap Emmerdale, added: “We ended it pretty definitively. I think it was a good ending. I think the writing was good. The acting was good. I’m pretty biased though.”

“I think it was a decent send off. From a personal standpoint, it’s a good job, my mates are still there, there are a lot of people there, it’s acting, I’d be able to do my PT on top of that. It’s a cool job,” he continued, adding that it was an “interesting” suggestion.

There could be some mileage in the idea, however, as Hollyoaks boss Hannah Cheers revealed last year that Harry would be the one character she would be willing to bring back from beyond the grave if the opportunity presented itself.

Speaking after his departure in 2019, Glasspool told Metro: “I’ve been so lucky… My ability at the start really didn’t line up with the A-grade storylines I was being given, but I appreciate being given them. I feel like I have improved.

“I have really enjoyed my time here, and I have learned a lot as an actor and also off-screen. There have been a few mistakes made there. It’s been a huge learning curve, and I wish the best for the show; I have had a really good time.”

The soap certainly has history for bringing back figures who were seemingly dead, with Clare Devine and James Nightingale being just a couple of individuals who made sensational comebacks in the past year.

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
