Hull KR’s Tyrone May celebrates after a try.

Player of the match Mikey Lewis was quick to insist Tyrone May was just as deserving of the award after Hull KR ’s emphatic win over Toulouse Olympique, praising his team-mate’s growing influence on the side.

Hull KR have rediscovered their winning rhythm, recording four consecutive victories, including a place in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup as they continue their bid to retain the trophy.

Willie Peters’ side are just four points behind league leaders St Helens, with Wakefield and St Helens also in the mix at the top end of the table, while Catalans’ win over Warrington pushed them just outside the play-off places. Hull KR had beaten Toulouse 46-0 just 24 hours earlier.

May and Lewis were once again influential in the Robins’ performance in the south of France, as the side scored eight tries in an emphatic victory. After a patient start that saw them lead 6-0, they went into half-time 18-0 ahead before dominating the second 40.

Livewire half-back Lewis was named official player of the match, but insisted team-mate May – among others – was deserving of the accolade.

“He steers the ship around so well,” Lewis told Sky Sports after the Round 8 victory.

“We’ve been playing together now for two, three years – and we should know each other inside out, how we both play. I feel like, especially this last month, he’s come out and really performed.

“I thought he deserved this [the player of the match award], because he was phenomenal again – like he has been the last four weeks.”

The reigning Super League champions take on Bradford Bulls for the first time since their promotion back to the top flight this week at Odsal.
