The inquest was told paramedics had been called to the family’s road of Long Hide, but had not been able to save Jamie-Lea.
A post-mortem examination had confirmed her death was caused by the injuries to her neck.
The dog, believed to be a lurcher-cross, was seized by police, with tests being carried out to establish the precise breed.
The BBC has approached Essex Police to find out if the dog has since been destroyed.
A 37-year-old man from Great Dunmow was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury resulting in death.
He was later released on bail.
