The popular ‘One8 Commune’ restaurant in Bengaluru, previously co-owned by Virat Kohli, has been shut following a court order over non-payment of rent, with dues reportedly exceeding Rs 2 crore.

Kohli had already severed ties with the outlet and withdrawn his brand name from the restaurant, located near the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Sources said he distanced himself after repeated compliance issues and notices over alleged fire safety violations in recent years.

The restaurant, operated by Trio Hills Hospitality, had defaulted on rent for nearly six months, in addition to pending maintenance charges and revenue share. The building owner subsequently moved the city civil court, which ordered the closure of the premises until all dues are cleared.

The outlet had also received multiple notices from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike for regulatory violations. With Kohli’s brand exit and declining footfall, the business reportedly incurred significant losses.

The restaurant will remain shut until outstanding payments are settled, in line with court directions.

In June last year, a case was filed against the pub and restaurant under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act for failing to provide a designated smoking zone on the premises. Earlier, the civic body had issued a notice alleging the outlet was operating without mandatory clearances, including a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Fire Department.

Another case was also registered against One8 Commune, along with other establishments on MG Road, for operating beyond permitted hours. The Bengaluru branch of One8 Commune was inaugurated in December 2023.
