We’ve been over the biggest, but what about countries on the other end of the scale. From nations within nations, to tropical islands and honeymoon hotspots, the list of smallest countries takes in the lot. So, to keep things short and sweet, here’s the 10 smallest countries in the world, ranked from smallest (top) to biggest (bottom).

Vatican City – 0.44 km²Monaco – 2 km²Nauru – 21 km²Tuvalu – 26 km²San Marino – 61 km²Liechtenstein – 160 km²Marshall Islands – 181 km²Saint Kitts and Nevis – 261 km²Maldives – 298 km²Malta – 316 km²

Many of these countries also make up the list of least populated, with the Vatican taking the (cup?) cake, as both the smallest and least populated country on Earth. Like Monaco, which ranks second smallest, Vatican City is a country within a country, found in the city of Rome, in Italy.
