But now, for the first time since the club was established in 1797, Aldborough Cricket Club has formed its first ladies’ team.

The team, known as the Trail Blazers, will play their inaugural match on Friday evening against West Rudham.

The team was born from community involvement, with many of the players starting as supporters on the side lines.

Encouraged to join training, they began with just four or five players, but numbers grew as word spread and friends joined in.

A spokeswoman for the team said: “This is a place for all, where your attitude is valued as much as your aptitude.”

The team will celebrate the occasion, and their first game, back at their “spiritual home” – The Cricketers pub – win or lose.

The club has extended an open invitation to anyone interested in joining the team, encouraging women of all ages and experience levels to get involved.
