Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri is stalling on a deal with the club’s potential new owners in a ‘bizarre twist’, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
The Owls have already been relegated to League One from the Championship following multiple points deductions this season, while they are also winless in over a year in league football – an English football record.
Chansiri has been looking to sell the club for a while and has been in talks with the ‘Arise Group’ over a deal to buy the club and take his debts on in order to avoid another points deduction for the start of next season, but a new development means the deal is now hanging by a thread.
Chansiri Refuses to Find Agreement

According to Nixon, writing on his Patreon, the Thai businessman is currently refusing to come to an agreement on a deal with Arise, as another bidder has made contact with him over a deal.
It’s reported that Chansiri is hoping to claim back 25p on the pound for his debts, and the new bidder is believed to be willing to make that offer to secure a deal. That’s despite the original bidders being backed by the administrators and being supported by the EFL.
Arise were hopeful of striking a deal with Chansiri worth 15p on the pound in order to be able to offer enough to other creditors to satisfy the EFL, and get a deal over the line.
However, the latest twist means that there is a very real threat of a 15-point penalty being in place for the start of next season, although Arise are expected to continue trying to find an agreement rather than walk away from the deal.
It’s also reported that the EFL may show some mercy to Sheffield Wednesday if they are convinced that Chansiri has been obstructive and unrealistic in negotiations, dropping the 15-point penalty to something lower.
Sheffield Wednesday Fans Deserve More

For such a huge club in the history of English football, it’s outrageous that this has been allowed to drag on for so long, and the EFL should be doing all they can to get Chansiri out rather than continuing to punish the club for something out of their control.
This is now yet another instance of Chansiri being unreasonable in his demands, and it’s the fans who are the ones being left to carry the load once he’s eventually gone.
The longer it goes on, the worse it gets for those who truly care about the club, but hopefully we are closer to the end game of this horrible scenario.
