A large fire has broken out in a factory building at an industrial park with police closing major roads around the area.

Thick plumes of black smoke can be seen across Greater Manchester with the blaze believed to have started in the Trafford area – although the cause is not yet known.

Emergency services were called to Clarence Avenue in Trafford Park at about 13:25 BST, firefighters said.

People have been urged to avoid the area as emergency services work to bring the fire under control, with reports of chemical and oil drums stored nearby.
