Lynn’s boxing community is paying tribute to a man with a “heart of gold” after his death.

Malwen Green, better known as Melly or ‘Mr Boxing’, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 27, at the age of 83, following a “battle” with ill health.

Melly was a well-known figure within the town’s boxing scene and had been described as somebody who would “go out of his way to help anybody”.

His friend, Jimmy Yallop, set up a GoFundMe page in a bid to raise money towards Melly’s funeral.

“The man, the myth, the legend deserves the best send off,” Jimmy said.

“People will have many memories of this great man, a man with a heart of gold, who loved his family and friends, a man who would go out of his way to help anyone.

“He didn’t always get the recognition he deserved, but that didn’t stop him from helping people and usually at his cost.

“So please people dig deep to give this local legend the send off he deserves, he leaves a huge Melly-shaped hole in my world and that of many.”

So far, £1,190 has been gathered, with Jimmy aiming to raise £4,000 for Melly’s funeral.
