The £8.5m rated Croatian suffered a season-ending ACL knee injury after 11 Championship appearances, and has not featured at all during the Belgian’s Carrow Road revival.

But the 22-year-old, who produced 12 goal assists in his first debut tour in England, is on course to be back for the start pre-season later this summer.

“I’m actually looking forward to working with him because I’ve had no chance to do anything,” said Clement. “I’ve seen him play in those difficult weeks and games for all the team and all the squad before I came this season. So you see certain things.

“You see also things that he could do better – like everybody in the squad in that moment. I’m really curious about that, and it’s good he’s going to be back the beginning of pre-season, that we can test things also during the pre-season and to see where he can fit in.

“Will it be competition for the nine position? Will it be in another position? He’s really versatile from the things that I saw. But then you get to know better the player’s individual qualities, and also the person. That is a really, really, really important part in everything.

“But I heard a lot of good things about his personality and his work rate, and I’ve seen also in the games that he works hard for the team. I don’t have any questions about his character to be honest.”

Crnac is part of a group of attacking options who have been unavailable for the run-in. The likes of Matej Jurasek (foot), Papa Amadou Diallo (quad) and Jovon Makama (foot) will all look to join Crnac back in the fold during pre-season.

Teenager Oscar Schwartau had been one of the main beneficiaries, in terms of game time, in a campaign that saw him crowned the club’s young player-of-the-season.

“I’m mostly impressed about his age, because, okay, he is just becoming 20, but you feel you are talking with somebody who’s 24 or 25,” said Clement. “The way he works, the way he’s picking up things, when we show him videos, when we talk about things, when we train on things, he is like a sponge.

“He takes in the information, but he keeps it also that you don’t need to repeat it a lot of times, and you see him evolving week by week, month by month, to become a better and better player.

“I’m really curious, where is he ceiling? I think we’re so far away from that and that he will improve the next couple of years, and that he will become a really, really good player.”
