Rearo, which is based at Govan in Glasgow and is registered at Lerwick in Shetland, has created the Steritop and Stericlad brands for hospitals, clinics, health centres, GP practices and dental surgeries.

The company, which specialises in the manufacture and supply of bathroom and kitchen surfaces for the UK trade and retail markets, declared the “new product family has been developed with a focus on the specific requirements of the healthcare sector, including infection control, durability, and hygiene”.

Rearo, which was founded in 1991 and has 77 staff, declared: “The move signals the company’s transformation from a traditional cubicle manufacturer into a comprehensive supplier of joined-up interior solutions for the healthcare market.”

Asked about orders for the NHS in Scotland and elsewhere in the UK, Rearo managing director Graham Mercer replied: “We have received orders from both Scotland and England. We tend not to get orders from the NHS directly but more from third-party contractors who are doing work in the NHS estates.”

Rearo, which had turnover of £10.6 million in the year to June 2025 and has about 80% of its workforce in Scotland, said: “With the introduction of Steritop – a new range of durable, infection-control-compliant worktops – and the expansion of Stericlad, its associated wall-lining system, Rearo can now offer a fully integrated suite of products, designed to meet the exacting demands of healthcare environments.”

Mr Mercer said that recent contract wins for Rearo in other sectors, including work for Aberdeen schools, “have demonstrated the success of this approach” for the company, encompassing cubicles, integrated plumbing system (IPS) panels, and Stericlad wall linings on the same project.

He added: “Steritop is our wedge into the healthcare market. It is a product that is difficult for others to manufacture consistently, and it allows us to start a conversation.

“But our ambition is much bigger than just selling worktops. By offering a complete family of products, we can go to a contractor and say, ‘here are all your answers for this site’. We are not just a cubicle company anymore – we are a provider of holistic interiors in a range of different commercial and professional settings.”

Robert Bennett, head of sales and marketing at Rearo, said: “We now have a portfolio that allows us to approach a healthcare project able to solve multiple problems.

“Whether it is a contractor looking for robust wall protection in a hospital or a dental surgery requiring seamless, cleanable work surfaces, we can now provide a single-source solution.”

He added: “This reduces complexity for the buyer and ensures a consistent standard of quality and infection control across the entire project.”

Rearo operates from a 67,000 sq ft manufacturing headquarters in Govan and has branches in Rosyth, Aberdeen, Northampton, Skelmersdale, and Washington in Tyne and Wear.

The company said: “With the Steritop and Stericlad brochures now published, new orders are already being processed, positioning Rearo for significant growth in the commercial healthcare sector throughout 2026 and beyond.”n

Rearo observed its “internal structure is evolving to support this strategic shift” with the integration of its internal sales and commercial teams to “help foster a more unified, sales-focused culture, designed to identify and target cross-selling opportunities from the head office”.

The company said that, as part of this “transformation”, it is also investing heavily in its own infrastructure.

Rearo added that it has developed a new meeting and presentation space to host continuing professional development sessions for architects and specifiers, “reinforcing the company’s commitment to technical knowledge and partnership”.
