5 Munster
Munster Rugby, one of Ireland’s four proud provincial clubs, is built on passion, resilience, and a fierce connection to its people. Once an amateur representative side drawn from clubs across the province, Munster dominated the old Interprovincial Championship, winning it 22 times before rugby turned professional in 1995.
Since then, Munster have forged a legendary professional legacy — two-time Heineken Cup champions in 2006 and 2008, and winners of the Celtic League and its successors four times. Their unforgettable victories, often born from grit and defiance, have made them one of Europe’s most respected teams.
Based at Thomond Park in Limerick — where the crowd’s silence during kicks is as iconic as their roar at the final whistle — and with roots stretching to Cork’s Musgrave Park, Munster embody the soul and spirit of Irish rugby.
4 Leicester Tigers
Few clubs in world rugby carry the weight of tradition quite like the Leicester Tigers. Born in 1880 and based at Welford Road since 1892, the Tigers have been the heartbeat of English rugby for well over a century. Their famous red, white, and green colours — and the roar from the stands — speak of a club built on passion, resilience, and community.
Leicester’s honours tell their own story: 21 major titles, a record 11 English Championships, and back-to-back European triumphs in 2001 and 2002. From Martin Johnson leading England to World Cup glory in 2003 to their 2022 Premiership win, the Tigers have produced legends and unforgettable moments. Under new coach Geoff Parling, they remain fierce, proud, and forever hungry for the next chapter of success.
3 Leinster
Leinster Rugby, founded in the heart of Dublin, is more than just a team — it’s a symbol of provincial pride and Irish rugby excellence. Representing the Leinster Branch of the IRFU, the club has grown from its amateur roots into one of Europe’s most formidable forces since turning professional in 1995.
Their home tends to be Dublin’s Aviva Stadium — or even the mighty Croke Park, where crowds have soared past 80,000. Clad in blue with the harp on their crest, Leinster embodies both heritage and ambition.
Dominant in the United Rugby Championship with nine titles and unmatched consistency, Leinster have also conquered Europe four times and currently have arguably the best squad in the world.
2 Crusaders
Founded in 1996 to represent New Zealand’s upper South Island, the Crusaders have become synonymous with excellence and consistency in world rugby. Based in Christchurch, they began modestly — finishing bottom in their debut Super 12 season — but soon rose to dominance, claiming their first title in 1998 and going on to build a dynasty.
Over nearly three decades, the Crusaders have set the standard for success, winning a record 13 full Super Rugby titles (and 15 overall, including the regionalised competitions of 2020 and 2021). Their red and black jersey has come to symbolise resilience and pride, qualities that defined their response to the 2011 Christchurch earthquake and their move to Apollo Projects Stadium.
More than a rugby team, the Crusaders are a cornerstone of New Zealand’s sporting identity — disciplined, unrelenting, and deeply connected to their community.
1 Toulouse
Top of the list is a team from what is widely considered the best domestic system in the world, France. Toulouse are European rugby’s most decorated club — a powerhouse whose name is woven into the sport’s history.
Based in the rugby heartland of southern France, Stade Toulousain have lifted the Heineken Cup and European Rugby Champions Cup a record six times, from their first triumph in 1996 to their most recent in 2024. At home, their dominance is just as remarkable, with 24 French league titles — more than any other side.
But Toulouse’s greatness isn’t just in silverware. Their academy has produced generations of French internationals, shaping the national team’s identity for decades. Playing in their iconic red, black, and white at the intimate Stade Ernest-Wallon — or before tens of thousands at the Stadium Municipal.
