Manchester United face an important summer transfer window after confirming their place in the Champions League. Michael Carrick’s side are third in the Premier League and have sealed their return to Europe’s top competition.
The manager is staking a strong claim to be given the role permanently after getting the best out of his United squad. Carrick has won 10 of his 14 games in charge to fire his old club up the table but the team will need new recruits in the transfer market as they prepare for Champions League football next term.
Last summer, United focused on building a new attack of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko. Midfield has emerged as a top priority this time around, as United are set to bid farewell to Casemiro.
Several names have been touted to take the Brazilian’s place and provide added competition in the middle of the pitch. Here, Mirror Football looks at some of the biggest stories surrounding the club.

Trio join transfer wishlist
Manchester United have been linked with Bournemouth duo Tyler Adams and Alex Scott, plus West Ham star Mateus Fernandes, in their search for new midfielders. Casemiro has been outstanding for Carrick’s side, making finding the right replacement crucial for United.

Sky Sports reports that Bournemouth stars Adam and Scott, alongside Hammers midfielder Fernandes, are among new targets being considered. It is claimed that United hope to sign two central midfield players to bolster their squad in the summer.
The trio join several other options linked with a move to Old Trafford. Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba are reported to be highly-regarded by the club, alongside the likes of Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton, Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali and Wolves’ Joao Gomes.

Summer budget becomes clear
Manchester United could reportedly spend £150million on new midfielders this summer. The club have boosted their transfer budget by qualifying for the Champions League.
The Daily Mail reports that United are prepared to spend £80m on a direct replacement for Casemiro. A further £40m could be spent on another target if the club are able to sell Manuel Ugarte for the right price, with the possibility of recruiting three midfielders not ruled out.
The report’s list of targets includes Anderson, Baleba, Wharton, Tonali and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, as well as the trio of Adams, Scott and Fernandes. It is claimed that the club also want to sign a left-back, centre-back, left-sided forward and back-up goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window.
