Lake District pub hosts party as over 2000 cyclists pass by

The Fred Whitton Challenge is due to return on Sunday as participants take on the 112-mile route through the Lake District.

For 2026, the challenge is featuring ‘The Struggle’ climb, which will allow The Kirkstone Pass Inn near Ambleside to cheer on those involved – and potentially give them a much-needed break.

The inn team said: “Join us for the ‘Pitstop Party’ at the top of the mighty Struggle as over 2,000 cyclists will be passing our door.

“We have live music, hecklers, coffee, cake and the biggest chair we could find if you need to rest your weary legs.”

The fun will begin from 6am on Sunday morning to ensure that the cyclists get an extra boost to push through one of the most difficult parts of the challenge.
