A regional retailer has revealed it will be shutting its Teesside Park outlet later this month owing to “rising rental costs”. Charles Clinkard has announced the permanent closure of its store at the shopping destination on Thursday, May 14.
The move follows closures elsewhere across Teesside two years ago, including the original Middlesbrough branch which was established by founders Charles and Eveline Clinkard on Corporation Road in 1924.
A spokesperson for Charles Clinkard said: ‘We can confirm that our Charles Clinkard store at Teesside Park will sadly be closing as a result of rising rental costs. Our focus is on continuing to serve our customers at Teesside Park with our doors remaining open until May 14, 2026.
“Our commitment to providing quality footwear and exceptional service will continue through our stores and website. Following the closure, our nearest stores for customers to visit will be our Northallerton and Darlington locations. We would like to thank our customers for their continued support and loyalty over the years.’
The established footwear business operates outlets nationwide, with branches in Darlington, Northallerton and Newcastle. The Teesside Park site launched nearly ten years ago in 2016, occupying the premises previously home to HMV, reports Teesside Live.
TeessideLive has approached Teesside Park for a statement.
