Steven Gerrard has sent his daughter Lexie a heartfelt message as she celebrates her 20th birthday today. The former Liverpool skipper regularly shares insights into his family life on social media and has had plenty to celebrate over the past year, including becoming a grandad for the first time.

To mark Lexie’s birthday, Gerrard shared a selfie of the two on his Instagram account. The post was captioned: “Happy 20th birthday Lexie. Love you.” The Liverpool legend shared a separate picture to his Instagram story with his arm around his daughter. He added: “Have a boss day, we love you.”

Lexie’s older sister Lilly Gerrard also shared birthday wishes this morning. She shared six pictures of her and Lexie together through the years. The caption read: “Happy birthday to my beautiful sister and bestie. Thank you for being the best auntie to Lila, she adores you! Hope you have a lovely day.”

To celebrate the special day, Lexie received multiple white helium balloons with her name written on them. Red ribbons were attached to the balloons. The retired midfielder always makes the most of his children’s birthdays.

Other birthday messages sent to Lexie came from Jamie Carragher, who said: “Happy birthday Lexie” alongside a confetti emoji and Liverpool goalkeeper coach John Achterberg, who wrote “Happy Birthday”.

Gerrard shares four children named Lilly, Lexie, Lourdes and Lio with his wife Alex Gerrard. Last month marked another special occasion for the family as his youngest Lio celebrated his 9th birthday.

One picture shared by Gerrard included Lio alongside the Reds summer signing, Florian Wirtz. The 45-year-old captioned the post: “Happy 9th birthday to my son and best mate Lio. I love you all the world kid.”

A new generation of the Gerrard family arrived last year when Lilly gave birth to her first child. Gerrard opened up on life as a grandad during an episode of Smith Bros: Not A Podcast in December last year.

The former Rangers manager spoke about becoming a grandad in the opening section as he opened up on how he has been devoting the past few months to his family.

He said: “[I’ve had] loads of free time with the family with the granddaughter coming, so trying to be around Lilly and [her partner] Lee [Byrne] as much as we can. More [his wife] Alex [Gerrard] because she knows what she’s doing.”

Gerrard said he has loved welcoming a new generation of his family into the fold. He said: “It’s unbelievable. It’s just the same buzz as when your own come. So loads of that.”

Gerrard left his position as head coach of Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Arabian pro league last year and has devoted recent months to his media opportunities as he is a regular pundit on TNT Sports coverage of the Champions League games.
