Having already captivated over 20 million visitors worldwide, a major exhibition presented by Arthemisia is finally coming to London this June. The exhibition will show over 150 works by Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher, taking you on a journey through impossible perspectives and worlds that defy reality.
Doors will open at Somerset House on June 5 – prepare to delve into optical illusions and fascinating visual systems through captivating combinations of geometry, mathematics, and art.
What awaits you at the M.C. Escher exhibition
The exhibition will take you through M.C. Escher’s artistic career, from his early works to his more mature ones, exploring the techniques and research that shaped his work. Curated by leading expert Federico Giudiceandrea, you’ll be guided through the themes that made the artist a household name – tessellations, metamorphoses, spatial structures, impossible constructions, and the iconic visual paradoxes that make his style instantly recognisable.
Some of M.C. Escher’s signature works you can look forward to seeing at Somerset House this June include Hand with Reflecting Sphere (1935), Day and Night (1938), Eye (1946), Relativity (1953), Print Gallery (1956), and Bond of Union (1956).
You will also be able to explore interactive installations for both adults and children, allowing you to get up close and personal with the conceptual mechanisms underlying his art – including the impossible perspectives and wondrous visual systems emblematic to the works all around you.
