The claim was made by wing Rhona Lloyd, who said “a lot has to be done” regarding professional women’s rugby in Scotland.
Last month, captain Rachel Malcolm said contract talks with Scottish Rugby have been “disruptive” to the squad ahead of the tournament.
At the squad announcement last Thursday, Malcolm said those talks had finished, but stopped short of saying they had reached a satisfactory agreement.
But Lloyd opened up on the frustration of the talks with Scottish Rugby’s hierarchy.
Currently, all 32 players in the World Cup squad have professional contracts until the end of the tournament, but the winger said that is set to be dramatically reduced following the World Cup.
“I’m not happy with the contractual situation for the squad,” Lloyd said.
“There’s a lot of the squad that are going into this World Cup – more than half the squad that are not coming out of it with contracts. That’s a lot of pressure to put on a player to perform under, not knowing if you’ve got a job in the following months.

“I totally support everything that Rachel [Malcolm] said previously in the media. I think she spoke really well of that.”
Lloyd’s own future is secure, with the 28-year-old returning to the UK from France and signing for Sale Sharks.
She added: “I do have a contract for Scotland next season. But yeah, aside from my personal circumstance, not happy the squad aren’t all in that place.”
But for those less fortunate, Lloyd admitted it has been a distraction ahead of the World Cup.
“It was absolutely disruptive for them,” she said.
“You look at the best teams in the world, they’re contracting, a lot of their contracts are running until next June, which takes the disruption out of the World Cup year.
“I think it has been disruptive for this to happen during our World Cup pre-season, which is the biggest tournament of our lives. “
A Scottish Rugby spokesperson said the more than half figure was inaccurate but wouldn’t give specific details out of respect to players still in the contact discussions.
