It added that the issue had placed “significant pressure” on Medway Maritime Hospital, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Councillor Teresa Murray, portfolio holder for public health, said that the contract, jointly funded by the authority and NHS Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB), would “ease the strain”.

“This contract is crucial to our ongoing work in Medway on prevention – helping people maintain their health and independence for longer,” she added.

“This will improve their quality of life, which will in turn help to relieve the burden on the NHS.”

Other services will include home visits from health professionals to help with everyday tasks and provide tailored exercises to rebuild strength and confidence.
