A dead whale has been found washed up on a beach in Angus. The mammal is believed to have been discovered on Carnoustie Beach just metres from a play park this morning.
The incident was reported to Angus Council who are dealing with the matter. Officials have been in contact with the Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme who will inspect the carcass either today or tomorrow.
Its size, species – such as humpback or sperm whale – and cause of death will then be determined. Photos taken at the small sand and rock beach show the large animal lying on the beach just a stone’s throw from the water.

Residents took to social media to share their thoughts on the find. One wrote: “Oh god, that’s so sad to see,” while another commented: “Such a shame”.
A local community Facebook page also shared images of the specimen, writing: “Whale washed up at beach. Authorities there. Very sad but fascinating.”
One person responded: “Heartbreaking to see but beautiful animal and photos don’t show how beautiful it is.”
An Angus Council spokesperson said: “We have been in contact with the Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme who plan to inspect the carcass either today or tomorrow.
“We will decide what course of action will be taken thereafter. We would ask that the public should stay away from the carcass in the meantime.”
