St Helens have launched new fan-led Q&A initiative ‘Ask The Saints’ and the first edition has seen them field questions on their decision not to participate in Las Vegas next year, as well as their recruitment status for 2027.
Despite being the front-runners alongside Hull FC for the majority of the decision-making process, St Helens will not be going to Las Vegas in 2027, where instead Bradford Bulls and Leigh Leopards will be the Super League representatives.
Hull FC have already explained their decision in a statement released by Andrew Thirkill and now, St Helens have addressed why they won’t be involved with the first question of their new Q&A series being Why are the Saints not going to Las Vegas in 2027?’.
Confirming that they will review the chances of their participation in future years, Saints have ultimately explained that they feel their priority should be investing into the playing squad.
They said: “Whilst appreciating the opportunity to promote both St Helens R.F.C. and the Super League on a global stage, our priority has been placed on investing further into our playing squad and physical infrastructure ahead of the 2027 season.”
As for Las Vegas in 2028, they added: “The Club remains very open-minded to the possibility of being part of the 2028 event, which would allow our supporters the maximum time to plan their trips, for which bespoke Club packages would also be created for those wishing to attend.”

St Helens committed to remain an ‘elite destination’ for signings
Having pointed to recruitment as a key reason why they will not be playing in Las Vegas next year, the club also addressed their ongoing recruitment for 2027 and in particular if fans could expect ‘any big-name signings’.
Answering that, St Helens said: “Bringing top-quality talent to the Club has been the utmost important priority at Saints. This remains the case, whether they are established international stars with experience across both hemispheres or talented local area players who are the heartbeat of the Club and inspire future generations.
“The player recruitment market has undoubtedly got harder. There is more competition for players at the Academy level, and the expansion of top-tier teams in both Super League and the NRL means that competition is fierce. It’s a challenge that we relish, and the Club is committed to ensuring that St.Helens remains an elite destination.”
Whilst potentially not a household name, St Helens have been linked with a big signing in terms of physicality with Love Rugby League reporting that the club are working on an immediate move to secure Canterbury Bulldogs forward Daniel Suluka-Fifita.
That would help bolster them given Matty Lees’ season-ending injury among other absentees in the pack.
