From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it’s investigating the financials of Elon Musk’s pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, ‘The A Word’, which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Katie Price has shared more insight into Lee Andrews’ final contact with her as she continues searching for her missing husband.
Price, who wed Andrews in January after just days of meeting him, told fans last weekend that she hadn’t heard from her husband since Wednesday 13 May and later revealed that during her last call with him, the Dubai-based businessman was tied up in a van.
Sharing more details in a vlog posted to her YouTube channel on Saturday (23 May), Price revealed that Andrews had three phones on his person when he was allegedly detained.

Speaking on the phone to an unknown person the morning after Andrews disappeared, Price said: “Last night, [he] said, ‘They’ve taken two of my phones. They don’t know I’m on this phone. And so he said, ‘I’ll just let you know I’ve been arrested, if they ring you.’
“He wrote a text quick. I mean, I hope he’s all right, but I don’t know. You’re like me, I have no idea. He’s been in there nearly 24 hours.”
The vlog then showed Price sending a voice message to Andrews’ dad Peter, with the reality star telling him: “Last night, Lee gave me your number. He said, ‘Look I’ve been arrested.’ He was in a police van because he FaceTimed me and he said, ‘Look, they put a hood over me.’
“Not like a balaclava but it looked like he had a hood, like an anorak hood. He said, ‘They’ve taken two of my phones. They don’t know I’ve got this one.’ He said, ‘But they’ve arrested me.’ I said, ‘What for?’ and he said, ‘I don’t know.’ So then he said, ‘Look I’m going to have to go. They’re coming back.’
“Do they put him in a cell there in the prison? What happens?”
On Sunday, Andrews’ father Peter claimed that his son had been imprisoned in Dubai. “Lee is OK. He has not been kidnapped, but he is under arrest. I don’t know on what charge,” he told DailyMail.co.uk.

“I’m not sure where he is being held. But he will call me later today.”
Price later branded that as “fake news” on her Instagram Story, telling fans: “Lee is still missing. Me and his family know what’s going on and working with the authorities involved.”
Her latest updates come after she said last week that she was “taking a step back” from the case after reading messages from concerned fans.
“My tentacles are up so look, I’m not a stupid person and I get how people see things and I have been reading things,” she said.
“I’m taking time to think of what I want to process and that’s why I say, there’s nothing more I can do but I am getting on with my life if you understand me saying that. Let me put it in short, for my own sanity, I’m taking a step back.”
