The ‘Star Cars’ exhibition at Westquay in Southampton returned for its second year, as several classic cars from film and TV lined The Esplanade.

Running until May 30, and open daily from 10am to 6pm, the event features a collection of beloved cars from cult classics and family favourites.

Ali Hampton, a staff member at the event on Monday, said: “It has been fantastic so far.

“This is the second day and we had a huge queue this morning.

“I think we’ve already had 200 people and it’s only been open 10 minutes which is phenomenal.

“It’s really popular.”

Vehicles on display this year include the DeLorean from Back to the Future, the Jurassic Park Ranger vehicle, Scooby-Doo’s Mystery Machine, Knight Rider’s KITT, and the flying blue car from Harry Potter.

Steve Hughes, who attended with his grandson, said: “We just turned up, I think the kids are going to love this, absolutely, they are actually gonna love all of them.

“It’s mad, isn’t it, we decided to come early, because of the temperature of the day, I reckon it will be 30 plus later, and we thought if we come here mid afternoon, not only is it gonna be really busy, but it’s gonna be so, so hot.”

Returning favourites include Lightning McQueen, the 1989 Batmobile, Tow Mater, and Professor Z.

Lee Stark, who visited the exhibition with his son and daughter, said: “Yeah it’s good to see them, we’ve seen a lot of the cars at Beaulieu before, but yeah, just it’s nice to see them all all about.

“My son likes the Lightning McQueen ones, but my daughter prefers the Stranger Things one.”

Others had planned their visit after seeing the event advertised online.

Ryan Cass, who visited with his wife Patricia and son Noah, said: “We’re loving it, we saw it online and thought yeah we should come down.

“For me, my favourite has to be the DeLorean.”

Patricia added: “It’s the Harry Potter car for me and Noah loves the Lightning McQueen.”
