Pod of dolphins breaching as they travel through the Clyde
A number of dolphins have been spotted travelling through the Firth of Clyde this week leaving those basking in the sun stunned.
Pods have been seen breaching in the Inverclyde and Ayrshire waters this week. Sightings have been shared publicly to Facebook, with some locals even “emotional”.
Clyde spotter Tracey O’Hagan seems to have been lucky this week as she sighted a pod of dolphins in Greenock, Largs and in Gourock too.
On Tuesday, May 26, a pod of four bottlenose dolphins were seen breaching from the water in Largs as they continued to travel north, surprising sunbathers, locals, and visitors down for a Nardini’s ice-cream.
This weeks special sightings come as temperatures soared to over 20C with plenty of sunshine. Us Scots have been lapping up the rare weather, parks have been busy, taps have been off and it set to be a scorcher again tomorrow, May 28 with temperatures of 26C.
Commenting under Tracey’s post, one local said: “Absolutely beautiful to see this. I hope I’m lucky enough to see this one day”, another added: “It doesn’t matter how many times I see these beautiful animals, it feels like the first.”
Avid spotter Tracey says there is a resident pod of five bottlenose dolphins tat often appear when the water is flat and calm. She says they can be spotted anywhere between Greenock Esplanade all the way to Largs.
