Summer is (almost!) here and regardless of the sunshine (or lack of it!), there’s one appointment you should keep this June and it’s the one with your sofa and your TV remote. The new season is bringing with it some of the best TV shows we’ve seen in a while – and we’re here to share all the details.
From a new Nicola Walker series (it’s a comedy!) to what’s set to be Harlan Coben’s best series ever and the return of the best spy thriller since Apple TV’s Slow Horses, the TV bosses have heard our prayers – and answered them. So, get ready for a summer of brilliant TV with our pick of the 10 unmissable shows to watch on ITV, Netflix, and more this June.
The Witness

One of Netflix’s most highly anticipated crime dramas this year, The Witness is based on the devastating true story of Rachel Nickell who was tragically murdered on London’s Wimbledon Common in 1992. Her two-year-old son, Alex, was the sole eyewitness to the attack and the drama zeroes in on the heartbreaking aftermath through the eyes of Rachel’s partner, André Hanscombe (Jordan Bolger), and Alex. As moving as you’d expect. Arriving on Netflix on Thursday 4th June.
Emma Barnett: Fighting Endometriosis

If you only watch one documentary this month, make it Emma Barnett’s. Having spent decades suffering with endometriosis, the broadcaster is bringing us the UK’s first documentary on it. The hour-long film invites us into her conversations with medical experts, patients and researchers, as well as giving us a glimpse into Emma’s own experience of living with the condition. An important watch. Arriving on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer at 9pm on Monday 1st June.
Cape Fear

Max Cady – the villain of the 1962 and 1991 films – is coming back to life thanks to Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson play Amanda and Steve Bowden, who are quietly going about their lives when Max is released from prison. The convicted rapist and murderer blames them for his conviction almost two decades earlier, and the only thing he wants now is revenge. Arriving on Apple TV+ on Friday 5th June.
Alice and Steve

While Nicola Walker sadly won’t be gracing our screens in the upcoming spin-off of The Split, she is turning her hand to comedy (sort of). This quirky new Disney+ series revolves around the titular Alice (Walker) and Steve (Jemaine Clement) have been best friends since, well, forever – but their friendship is put to the ultimate test when middle-aged Steve starts dating Alice’s twentysomething daughter Izzy (Yali Topol Margalith). If it sounds like a recipe for disaster, we can confirm that it very much is. Arriving on Disney+ on Monday 8th June.
I Will Find You

There’s no such thing as a good TV year without a Harlan Coben series (or two) and this time, his 2023 novel forms the plot. We’ll meet David Burroughs (Sam Worthington) who’s been wrongly imprisoned for killing his three-year-old son and when a visitor shows him a photo suggesting his son might actually be alive, hatches a plan to uncover the truth. But first, he must escape. The king of plot twists strikes again with what might just be the best Harlan Coben series ever. Arriving on Netflix on Thursday 18th June.
Sugar

If you love a private detective story, they don’t get much better than Sugar, which proved a huge hit with fans when it premiered in 2024. Now, Colin Farrell is back as American PI John Sugar and he has a new case on his hands, which involves tracking the troubled older brother of an up-and-coming local boxer, Meanwhile, his search for his beloved missing sister continues. Laura Donnelly, Jin Ha and Raymond Lee are among the new cast. Series 2 is arriving on Apple TV+ on Friday 19th June.
Harlan Coben’s Final Twist

In the mood for more Harlan Coben? ITVX has picked up this true crime series, in which the author guides us through a collection of murder investigations and high-profile crimes. Think the murder of a couple in their home that leads detective to a bizarre cyberbullying conflict and the case of a case of a missing woman who vanished from her own property while hosting a wedding. Just like a Harlan Coben thriller – but true! Arriving on ITVX on Sunday 21st June.
The Agency

If you’re a Slow Horses fan and haven’t yet dived into The Agency, may we suggest you catch up at your earliest convenience. Produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov, the gripping espionage drama stars Michael Fassbender as CIA agent Martian who has an exceptional track record as one of the agency’s most reliable operatives – until he finds himself caught between his duties and a matter of the heart. In series 2, we’ll find him walking an increasingly dangerous line as he tries to save Samia (Jodie Turner-Smith), who’s now a political prisoner in Sudan. Series 2 is arriving on Paramount+ on Sunday 21st June.
House of the Dragon

The third instalment of Sky’s epic Game of Thrones prequel is coming. If you’re new to the drama, the series takes us back 300 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones’ and focuses on the story of House Targaryen of Dragonstone, otherwise known as the House of the Dragon. In series 3, we see the Targaryen civil war reaching a violent climax and, perhaps more excitingly, a new cast member arrive in the form of James Norton, who plays the nephew of Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), Ormund. Worth all the hype and more. Series 3 is arriving on HBO Max on Monday 22nd June.
The Bear

It’s back to TV’s most chaotic kitchen for the fifth and final (sob!) series of The Bear. The new episodes pick up the morning after Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie (Moss-Bachrach) and Natalie “Sugar” (Abby Elliott) discover that Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) has quit the food industry, leaving the restaurant in their trembling hands. With no money, the threat of a sale and a torrential storm in their way, the trio must work together to achieve one last service in the hope of finally earning a Michelin star. Will they get the happy ending they deserve? Series 5 is arriving on Disney+ on Friday 26th June.
