The M6 has been closed in both directions after a lorry crashed into the central reservation barrier and overturned.
The closure was put in place between junction one near Rugby, Warwickshire, and the Catthorpe interchange in Leicestershire, after the crash shortly before 17:00 BST on Sunday, National Highways said.
A spokesperson said all emergency services, including the air ambulance, were at the scene and highways officers were assisting with traffic management.
They were working on plans to release traffic caught within the closure, the spokesperson added, and drivers have been warned of delays of up to 40 minutes.
