The event is partially funded by the government and supported by West Midlands Combined Authority and Transport for West Midlands, charity Cycling UK, British Cycling and the Walk, Wheel, Cycle Trust, the council said.

Sam Henry, founder of No Limits to Health, which organises the event with the council added: “The city continues to be made safe for cycling with the help of City of Wolverhampton Council – Kidical Mass celebrates that, alongside cycling for physical and mental health.”

Porter said: “Best wishes to all taking part in the Kidical Mass bike ride. Fingers crossed for good weather, and I hope everyone enjoys it.”

Participants should bring roadworthy bikes and helmets, the council said, adding that marshals accompany riders along the approximately 4.5-mile route, but younger children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
