Real Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo has confirmed the Spanish club is not giving up on re-signing Manchester United winger Antony before the end of this summer’s transfer window.
Antony is expected to leave the club ahead of the window closing on September 1. Betis have maintained interest in the Brazilian throughout the summer after signing him on loan back in January for the second half of the 2024/25 campaign. He excelled in Spain, scoring nine goals and registering five assists in just 26 games.
Antony’s stint at Betis saw him revive his career and create a market for himself ahead of this summer’s window. However, he is still yet to find out whether he will be offered a route out of Old Trafford after not playing a single minute of the club’s pre-season campaign.
Keen to sign the 25-year-old for a second time, Fajardo has confirmed both Betis and Antony want to get a deal done, but has suggested they will only be able to complete the deal if the finances involved are reasonable.
“Both parties want him to be here this season,” said Fajardo, as quoted by AS. “Every day that passes allows us to dream of him being here.
“If Antony is here, it’s because the numbers add up. The most important thing is the club’s sustainability; we can’t do anything crazy.
“It’s okay to think big, but you also have to keep your feet on the ground. If he doesn’t sign with a club, there are still options, but the deal would take place within the parameters we have budgeted at the club.”
It is believed Betis, if they are to sign Antony for a second time, will have to take him on loan amid doubts they could fund a permanent deal for him.
United need to sell the Brazilian for £32.58million this summer to avoid a loss under the profit and sustainability rules (PSR). He has two years left on his deal at Old Trafford.
