Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens said the introductions of its two Sumatran tigers have gone smoothly.

The pair had arrived as part of a breeding programme for the endangered species.

A spokeswoman for the sanctuary said: “We are delighted to share that our Sumatran tigers, Raja and Lotte, have now been successfully introduced to one another.

“This milestone is the result of a careful, gradual introduction process.

“Our keepers have closely monitored every stage, allowing both tigers to become familiar with each other’s scent, sounds and presence before progressing to direct contact.

“By taking a slow and steady approach, we have been able to ensure that both animals remained comfortable and confident throughout the process.

“We are thrilled with how Raja and Lotte have responded to one another and look forward to continuing to monitor their relationship as it develops.”

Raja had arrived at Thrigby from Frankfurt in the summer last year, while Lotte was a more recent addition, arriving in March 2026.
