Leigh Leopards will be without young winger AJ Towse for around three months, after the former York man tore his hamstring.
Towse, who has been hailed by boss Adrian Lam at times this season for his efforts and development, will be out for around 10-12 weeks, in an injury that is similar to Bevan French’s according to the boss.
The 22-year-old has made four appearances in 2026, scoring three tries, and has been a valuable depth option in the absences of Keanan Brand, Umyla Hanley and Tesi Niu.
However, he is now set for a spell on the sidelines, with boss Lam confirming the news in a press conference today.
“It’s not ideal,” Lam said. “He’s played a lot more time than what was probably expected, but he’s a class act, AJ.
“We’re going to miss him, and I’m sure he’ll recover as quickly as he possibly can.”

Leigh Leopards boss issues squad injury update
Towse was one of many players spoken about this week, with the absences of Hanley and Niu from this week’s 21-man squad one of the first on the agenda.
He said: “Tesi’s got a hamstring strain, which hasn’t been ideal for us, we’re just taking precautions around that. He probably could play next week, or this week at a pinch, but we just don’t want to overcomplicate that.
“Umyla’s got a groin strain. I think Umyla recieved that with about 20 minutes to go in the last game, so he’ll probably be three to four weeks out.”
Owen Trout missed the win over Hull FC and is absent this week too. Lam put it down to personal issues ahead of that game, and he has reiterated that yet again.
He said: “As a club, the general comment is that we’re just making sure that he’s okay and everything involved with him is at a level where we’re coping. We’re just looking after him.”
There is no timeframe for when the England international could return to the side.
