Salisbury District Hospital’s Emergency Department is currently facing high demand, leading to longer waiting times as staff prioritise the most seriously ill patients.
A post on Facebook reads: “Our Emergency Department is currently very busy.
“You may experience longer waiting times as our teams prioritise patients who are most seriously unwell.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding while our teams work hard to care for everyone who needs us.”
Hospital teams are asking the public to consider alternative services for non-urgent health concerns.
Options include calling NHS 111 for advice, visiting a pharmacy, using the Salisbury Walk In Centre, or accessing the Minor Injuries Unit in Andover.
The Salisbury Walk In Centre is open from 6.30pm to 10pm on weekdays and from 8am to 8pm at weekends.
People are also reminded to continue booking appointments through their GP practices for less urgent health needs.

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust is encouraging people to practise good hygiene, stay home when unwell, and check on vulnerable neighbours and relatives.
The trust said that hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home if you have symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, flu, Covid-19, or other respiratory illnesses can help reduce the spread of infection.
The trust said: “Look out for others.
“Check in on older neighbours, friends, and relatives especially if they live alone or have long-term conditions.
“Small acts of care can make a big difference.”
Further advice on how to choose the right healthcare service is available on the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust website.
