It feels like George Knight only just arrived at the Love Island villa as this season’s first male bombshell and he’s already left the show – not because he was eliminated or because he couldn’t find a partner, but because he decided to quit.
Naturally, this move sparked a frenzy online, with viewers attempting to work out why George decided to leave. It can’t have helped that George was tasked with dumping two islanders, along with fellow bombshell Yasmin Hadlow, within 24 hours of arriving. The duo picked Samraj Toor and Ellie Chadwick, and in a typical Love Island twist, the dumped islanders weren’t actually dumped at all.
It’s sad news for viewers as George was already making an impression in the villa, sparking up potential romances with both Robyn Langton and Mica Harris.
However, after making it through all of that, George decided to leave and it’s since been confirmed that his exit won’t be aired on the show. A Love Island spokesperson said, ‘For private reasons, George has left the Love Island villa. Duty of care for the Islanders is paramount so at this stage any further comment will come from George.’
So, why did George leave Love Island?
It doesn’t sound like we will get a concrete answer from George himself, or Love Island producers, however fans have plenty of theories about his departure.
‘He likely did not comply with the producers,’ offered one fan on X. Another suggested he ‘fell through the vetting cracks’. Mitchel Tasylor aka Messy Mitch from season 10 posted a livestream with Tyrique Hyde from season 10 to say, ‘George has left guys. I know the reasons, but it’s not for me to say out of respect for the islanders.’
Others think he might have been effected by the ‘twist’ of Samraj and Ellie staying in the competition. ‘George was crazy but he was so right for TV because now who’s going to be the villain?’ asked another user.
Whether the fallout of George’s shock departure will play out on the show is unclear.
Will George’s exit be shown on Love Island?
No, unlike in most previous instances, ITV have confirmed that George’s premature departure will not be shown or explained on the show.
