The All Island Image of the Year 2026 was hosted by the Focus-Ryde Imaging Group at Binstead Community Centre in May.

The competition was originally organised by Bembridge Photography Club, which folded around 2008, leaving the Focus-Ryde Imaging Group to continue the tradition.

Open to all Island club members affiliated with the Southern Counties Photographic Federation, the event attracted a wide range of entries.

The competition, traditionally a print-only affair, adjusted its format this year to include two separate categories: printed images and projected digital images.

The competition was evaluated by Keith Walker, a well-known Island photographic appraiser.

The first round of judging focused on the projected image category, featuring 51 digital entries.

Third place went to Time to Rest by Graham Caws of Wight Vision Camera Club, second place to Masquerade by Bridget Lewis of Focus-Ryde Imaging Group, and first place to Sunset Sentinels by Paul Dowthwaite of the Isle of Wight Photographic Society.

During a short break for refreshments, a raffle was held, raising £57.10 for Mountbatten.

The second half of the evening was dedicated to the printed image category, which attracted just 19 entries this year.

The low number was attributed to the high costs associated with producing and mounting high-quality photographic prints.

Once again, Keith Walker offered detailed critiques before announcing the top three.

Third place was awarded to When I Paint my Masterpiece by Paul Dowthwaite, second place to Watching by Alf Damp of Focus-Ryde Imaging Group, and first place to Echoes of the Loom by Paul Dowthwaite.

The event concluded with the judge presenting trophies and certificates to the winners.
