Trump International Golf Resort in Doonbeg has not received confirmation that the US President will attend the Amgen Irish Open in September.
Donald Trump has visited the golf resort a number of times since the Trump Organization acquired the property in Co Clare in 2014, including on an official trip to Ireland during his first presidential term in 2019.
Speculation has been rife that he will return to Doonbeg this autumn since the links course was announced as the venue for the Amgen Irish Open.
Speaking at a media briefing, General Manager Joe Russell said: “We have no confirmation that he is coming.
“We know that he wants to come, but no confirmation yet that he will be here.”
Mr Russell said the tournament will be great for the local community and will provide “economic stimulus for the region”.
There are 784 people living in Doonbeg according to the latest census, and 305 people work in the Trump International resort during peak season.
The DP World Tour said it is planning for all scenarios and will be prepared should the US President attend the event.
“It will be disruptive but that goes with the territory,” said Paul Gillmon, Head of Championships, DP World Tour.
The organisers are expecting an attendance of over 70,000 at this year’s Irish Open.
They are hoping to create a “positive impact” for the local community and minimise disruption.
It was confirmed today that Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald will compete alongside Team Europe comrades Tyrrell Hatton, Rasmussen Hojgaard and twin brother Nicolai.
The field also features defending champion Rory McIlroy.
The Amgen Irish Open will take place from 10 to 13 September.
