The BBC has commissioned two production companies to help develop and produce content aimed at 16–24-year-olds who are seeking open, honest and informed discussion online. The content will form part of an upcoming BBC channel on YouTube – Perspectives (w/t) – as well as being shown on BBC iPlayer.

Strong Watch Studios and Birmingham-based Acclaimed Content will work with the BBC to create a series of formats that will entertain, challenge assumptions, spark curiosity and build understanding – showcasing a range of views and experiences from across the UK.

Mariel Capisciolto, BBC Head of Digital Development says: “It’s fantastic to be working with Acclaimed and Strong Watch Studios – who will be laser focused on creating fresh, entertaining formats that will encourage thought-provoking debate and meaningful conversation around the biggest topics affecting young lives today.”

The two companies will work closely with the BBC to make content that connects with the audience and aligns with the BBC’s editorial standards of fairness, accuracy and impartiality.

Fiona Campbell, Director of Factual, BBC says: “In a world of polarising online content, this channel aims to bring the BBC’s values of impartiality and fairness to young YouTube audiences looking for insightful discussion online. Our mission is to bring people together, deepen their relationship with the BBC and to help build a community of discussion for the next generation.”

The channel forms part of the BBC’s YouTube strategy, announced in January this year, which set out plans to launch new targeted channels including Deepwatch – a new youth documentary channel – and seven new children’s channels. All content will also be available on BBC iPlayer.

More details about upcoming Perspectives, Deepwatch and other YouTube first content will be available in the coming months.
