Residents across a Lincolnshire town will soon be receiving their new food waste bins.
Various councils across the county have already distributed and begun regular collections of the food waste recycling caddies, and from Monday, June 29, the new bins will also be delivered to more than 32,000 households across Boston.
Boston Borough Council will then launch its weekly food recycling service in September 2026.
Each household in the area will receive a small indoor food waste caddy, a larger outdoor food waste caddy, an initial roll of liners and an information guide about the service.
The bins will be delivered to doorsteps or placed within individual properties, but residents should not use them until the week before collections start.
The council states that the smaller indoor caddy should be emptied regularly into the larger outside one, and that both can be washed when needed, with the smaller one being dishwasher safe up to 60C.
Councillor Callum Butler, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, said: “All households will receive everything they need to take part.
“Although this service has been introduced as part of a Government requirement, we are pleased to provide residents with another opportunity to reduce waste and increase recycling.”
He continued: “It may take a little getting used to, but by recycling food waste separately, residents will help reduce the amount of waste sent to Lincolnshire’s Energy from Waste facility.
“Food waste will be collected weekly on residents’ normal bin collection day. The same crew will collect it, but it will be placed into a separate section of the vehicle.
“Residents who already receive an assisted bin collection will also receive assistance with their food waste caddies.”
The food waste caddy can be used for all food intended for human or household pet consumption, such as raw and cooked meat, including bones, fruit and vegetables, tea bags, meal leftovers, dairy items, and small amounts of sauces left on food.
However, things like food packaging, liquids or any non-food waste items, should not go in this bin.
