The Welsh Rugby Union wants Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Daniel Milton to help develop the next generation of coaches.
WalesOnline understands the WRU is looking into the prospect of appointing Milton on secondment where he would work within the rugby programme.
The WRU has been looking for a replacement for former performance coach manager John Neal who recently left. If Milton gets the job he will be responsible for ensuring there is a conveyer belt of quality coaches in Wales to take charge of the national and regional teams.
There will be a focus on both the men’s and the women’s game.

The WRU’s technical director Rhys Long wants to place a strong emphasis on coach development over the next few years, making this an important role.
Milton is currently a senior lecturer and researcher in Physical Education & Sport Coaching in the Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences
He was head of rugby at Cardiff Met but stepped away two years ago; Dai Young is now in charge of the programme.
Milton is very highly regarded within the Welsh game having helped develop a top-class rugby programme at Cardiff Met, which former England and Australia coach Eddie Jones once described as “a breeding ground for Test match rugby players.”
Wales star Aaron Wainwright and England international Alex Dombrandt came through the Cardiff Met programme while Milton was at the helm.
He has also previously been the attack coach for the Wales U18s team.
Over the next few years there will be an onus on developing more top-class Welsh coaches who can coach at the highest level.
