Hull FC have completed the signing of Catalans Dragons hooker Alrix Da Costa. The 28-year-old, who turns 29 in October, has previously worked with incoming head coach Steve McNamara at the French club, where he has spent his entire career to date.
Making his debut in 2016, Da Costa has 160 appearances to his name, including seven this year, and will join the Black and Whites ahead of next season, with Hull Live understanding that he has agreed a one-year contract with the club.
A French international, Da Costa has also played 12 times for France, including the 2022 Rugby League World Cup, and adds further competition and depth to the dummy half position.
As it stands, Hull have hookers Amir Bourouh, Cade Cust, and Denive Balmforth all contracted for next year – the latter on a season-long loan at York Knights. However, it’s fair to expect at least one of those players will depart at the end of the season. Young dummy half Will Hutchinson is also contracted and it’s understood he will be backed next year after showing some promising signs this term.
Meanwhile, Da Costa is Hull’s second playing recruit for 2027, joining hometown full-back or outside back Bailey Hodgson, who the club have acquired from Leigh Leopards. The Black and Whites have also finalised a deal for Scott Taylor to return to the club as an assistant coach, with physio Nathan Mill also joining the backroom staff from St Helens.
The club are expected to make more signings as the year unfolds, with movement also going the other way. Jed Cartwright is out of contract and already confirmed to be leaving at the end of the year, and he won’t be the only player to be moved on.
Of course, McNamara, working behind the scenes with club CEO Richie Myler and co, will join the club ahead of pre-season training this autumn. He is currently an assistant to Sam Burgess at Warrington Wolves.
